Table for securing plate on engraving machine - uses suction cups containing floating disc plugs and which project above table top in funnel form

The table (1) with suction cups (2) is used to secure a workpiece plate (3) on an engraving machine during e.g. a graphic reproduction process. A table top (7) veneer locates cups (2) in bores (6) to a regular grid layout, each cup communicating (8) with a passage (9) to the vacuum source. Each cup projects above the table in the form of a funnel (5), containing a filter (12) and a floating disc obturator (10). The funnel (5) collapses flat onto the table (7) under the effects of the vacuum, its lips making a sealed knife edge contact with a smooth underside to the plate. The disc seals the aperture (9) when the funnel is not completely covered by the plate.
