PURPOSE:To accomplish deodoring treatment with a less use of an activated charcoal by passage of aldehyde containing gas after it is mixed with ozone and passed through a catalyst layer in which specific metal oxides are activated. CONSTITUTION:An aldehyde containing gas 1 is introduced to a washing column 2 where a water is sprayed from a spray to remove water soluble substance such as ammonia. Then, it is passed through a catalyst layer 5 after injection of ozone 10 in a duct 4 from an ozone generator 9. The gas is brought into contact with a catalyst 6 such as an oxide of Co or oxides of Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni or the like in the catalyst layer 5, and aldehyde in the gas is turned to an organic acid through oxidation in contact with ozone. The acid thus formed in the gas is adsorved away with an activated charcoal 8 while passing through an activated charcoal cell 7. This reduces consumption of the activated charcoal and enables deodoring with a lower maintenance cost due to cheap ozone used. |
