The seal is for the gas passages of a regenerative heat exchanger, and comprises a strip bearing against a rotary disc- type accumulator body, together with a sealing membrane extending over the gap between the strip and the housing wall. The strip has a ceramic wearing layer. One or more graphite strips (28) are embedded in this layer (16), their end faces (32) lying in the plane of the ceramic working surface (22). The strips can be enclosed in soft and heat-resistant material (31), being embedded in a plasma-sprayed ceramic layer. They can be soldered to the sealing strip (15).
