PURPOSE:To provide an economial means for separating sulfur from sulfur dioxide gas with an apparatus to contact and react SO2 gas with granular coal, by furnishing the apparatus with a conveyor for transporting the granular coal, a means for supplying SO2 gas, and a means for collecting the reaction gas. CONSTITUTION:The apparatus for separating sulfur from SO2 gas is composed of a granular coal layer forming conveyor 1, a means for supplying SO2 gas 10, 12, a duct 13 connected to a reaction gas collecting means, etc. The conveyor 1 is supplied with coarse granular coal C through a hopper 6, and then with ordinary granular coal C' through a hopper 7 to form the moving laminate layers C and C' of the granular coals. The layers C, C' are heated in an ignition furnace 8, and made to react with SO2 gas introduced to the layers through a blower 12 and wind box 10. SO2 gas is reduced by the reaction to sulfur and CO2 gas, which are exhausted through the duct 13 and collected by an outside collector. The coal layers C, C' are cooled with N2 gas blasted by the blower 14, and recovered. |
