<p>Granular feed material, e.g. slack and fine coal for gasification under pressure, is pressed into strands in the die channels of an edge runner mill. Its parameters are determined by placing a sample ahead of the mill into the bore of a slider and by pressing the sample by a plunger into a die. The force of reaction on the plunger or on the die is measured and is used to control the moisture content as the most important parameter govering the suitability of the material for agglomeration. This produces quick and accurate figures for the moisture content by uncomplicated apparatus which can form a part of an automatic control loop.</p> |
