PURPOSE:To manufacture high purity carbonyl sulfide useful as starting material for agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals in the absence of catalyst by blowing CO gas into molten sulfur to bubble it and subjecting the generated gaseous mixture to vapor phase reaction. CONSTITUTION:Molten sulfur kept at 300-440, preferably 350-380 deg.C is bubbled by blowing CO gas to generate a gaseous mixture consisting of CO and sulfur in 1.0/1-6.0/1, preferably 1.4/1-3.0/1 molar ratio. This mixture is then kept at 510-650, preferably 530-600 deg.C for 1sec-5min to manufacture high purity carbonyl sulfide. |
