1,199,836. Crucible for metal-casting machine. BRITISH MOTOR CORP. Ltd. 10 July, 1969 [6 Aug., 1968], No. 37416/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions B3 and F3-F4] A metal casting machine, including a highfrequency electric induction melting unit 1, is provided with means whereby a replaceable crucible 13A for the unit may be moulded in situ in a preformed cavity provided in the unit. The crucible is made at a first station of a rotary table casting machine (Fig. 5, not shown), from resin-bonded sand or ceramic material which is blown into the cavity from a central tube 9 in a removable core 8. A retractable plunger 7 mounted in a removable platen 2 which defines the bottom of the cavity, then co-operates with the tube 9 to both define the bottom outlet aperture of the crucible, and to protect unused material remaining in the tube 9, whilst a hardening agent in the form of carbon dioxide under pressure, is supplied through annular duct 10 and outlet vents 11. Plunger 7 is then retracted, core 8 withdrawn, and the unit 1 with its thus formed crucible moved to a second operating station. |
