1,119,758. Combustion chambers. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. March 8, 1967 [March 12, 1966], No. 10958/67. Heading F1B. Fuel from an injector 11 Fig. 2 is injected in the same direction as the air flow 12 directly into a channel 9 extending along the combustion chamber wall towards an electric igniter 10. The channel 9 increases in depth along its length up to a rounded shoulder 7 which projects the fuel towards the igniter 10. The fuel is injected as a pair of jets 13, 14, and the channel 9, which may have a rectangular or semicircular crosssection, may be provided with an enlargement (15) Fig. 3 (not shown) at its upstream end or alternatively may be triangularly shaped Fig. 4 (not shown). The combustion chamber may be formed in the piston or cylinder head, in the latter case being offset from the cylinder axis. |
