The containers are used for holding cold gases or liqs., esp. liq. gas and have walls formed by two layers of reinforced- or prestressed- concrete; and the pores in the inner layer are at least partly filled with a liq. which solidifies at the service temp. of the container. The pref. liq. is water, which may be injected as steam into the pores, or a mixt. of water with an alcohol; and thermal insulation is pref. included in the double wall. At the service temp. of the container, the water forms ice and thus an effective seal. Used e.g. for the storage of liq. natural gas at -162 degrees C.
