[Also in Division G4] In apparatus for selecting cards from a stack in which selector bars co-operate with coded notches on one edge of the cards, the selector bars are also used to control the operation of punches for selectively notching the edges of new cards. First embodiment, Fig. 3.-Keyboard-actuated solenoids 61A set respective selector bars 29A by moving them longitudinally so that recesses 60 no longer lie over lift bars 64 and their right-hand ends lie under punches 140. A new card is inserted between guides 148 so that the edge to be notched enters recesses 142 between dies 141 and punches 140. The punches 140 may be operated by means of cams on a rotating shaft which raise bars 64 by way of pivoted levers (not shown). Alternatively, a solenoid 160 may be energized to raise bars 64 against punches 140. A further solenoid 152 is used to punch a notch in the opposite edge of the card. Second embodiment Fig. 16.-A nylon covered cable 207 is attached to a punch assembly 203 at one end, is wound several times round a motor driven polished pulley 209 and is attached to a fixed point at its other end. The cable 207 thus drives the punch assembly across the ends of selector bars 29 until a longitudinally moved bar 29 is reached. At this point the cable slips on pulley 209 and contacts are closed to energize a solenoid 212 which operates the punch plunger 215 by way of arm 213 and elongated lever 214. On completion of punch operation, solenoid 218 is energized to reset the selector bar 29 by means of a plunger 219 carried on assembly 203, and the cable 207 is then able to advance the assembly 203 to the next set selector bar 29.</p> |
