The grinding machine has an automatic divider to displace a rotatable tool-holder spindle. A slide locates the divider being capable of longitudinal motion and rotation, and a machine table locates the motor-grinder unit. A fine tolerance redn. gear train couples an electric stepping motor directly to the slide upon which the tool spindle is mounted. A drive shaft which serves the divider and one or more slides is coupled to a mass whose inertia relates to the torsional harmonic frequency of the transmission systems.
