S and N oxides are sepd. from a gas mixt. also contg. O2 by contacting the mixt. and NH3 with a solid S oxides acceptor (A) at 150-450 degrees C.; A is Cu and/or CuO dispersed on a carrier with Ru and Re or their oxides, the Ru + Re calculated as metal, comprising 0.01-2.0 wt.% of A. Typical gas mixts. are flue gases. The Ru/Re component improves the NOx conversion activity and the SOx capacity of the acceptor while suppressing SOx breakthrough. The acceptor may also be regenerated faster and to a greater extent.
