A store (1), which can be connected to a suction-air source, serves for the temporary storage of the weft thread (5) to be inserted into the shed. The thread exit orifice (8) of the store (1) is followed by a thread-clamping device which can be actuated via control levers by a control disc (18) synchronous with the main shaft of the machine. The braking surfaces (11, 12) of the thread-clamping device are arranged immediately after the exit orifice (8) of the store (1), in a straight continuation of the thread run out of the store (1), and are located in the suction-airstream entering the store (1). <IMAGE>
