A map navigation system for aircraft comprising a map position indicator which on a map display 7 shows a continuously updated course and position- oriented map image. The system also comprises a computer unit which updates the map image and also calculates the map scale on the map display on the basis of geographic coordinates of two or more points on the map. Transparencies of the relevant navigation maps are used for the map position indicator. When preparing these transparencies there is no need to take the scale of the map into account as this is calculated against the background of the map image on the map display. Two map picture magazines A, B (cassettes), each with a projection lamp 1,2 are used to provide, via a rotatable mirror 4, objective lens 5, rotatable prism system 9, and projection lens system 8, a suitably oriented map image on screen 7. <IMAGE> |
