The installation uses a rail (21,22) guided carriage (20) to polish the edges of aligned stone slabs (S). The slabs are mounted on slidable decks (14), aligned, and finally positioned in the path of the polishing head (23). Positioning is effected by sliding the decks (14) transversely relative to rails (21,22) and the slabs (14) are secured by hydraulic jacks (9) when in the polishing station. The decks (14) may be of granite, spanning beams (4) mounted on rails (5), and have front face grooves (11) for stop pegs (12). Jacks (9) may be mounted on portal frames (7,8) and clamp the slabs (S) on the deck (14), pegs (12) being removed once the slabs are secure.
|
