<p>A stainless steel reinforcement strip is embedded in a rigid glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide body to form the rim of a bicycle wheel. The synthetic profile may be in two parts (1,2) which are bonded into a unit. Recesses (4,5) accommodate a strip of steel (3) with curved over ends (6,7) which pulls the two halves together, and the central circumferential joint is made by ultrasonic welding. Countersunk holes are drilled for the spoke nipples. The rim is light in weight, strong and keepts its shape consistently during use.</p> |
