Compositions for controlling phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi in agriculture and horticulture which are not only compatible with plants but also leave residues which avoid toxicological problems comprise a nitroalkanol bactericide of the formula <IMAGE> where R is H or hydroxyalkyl, R' is H, Cl, Br or hydroxyalkyl and R'' is H, alkyl or trichloromethyl together with one or more fungicides e.g. a benzimidazole, phthalimide, heterocyclic or aromatic carboxylic acid or dithiocarbamate. The compositions may also contain fillers, diluents, surface active agents and substances which enhance the penetration capacity of the effective constituents. |
