The violin has the conventional chin rest replaced by a ring which is combined with the element securing the ends of the strings. During playing, the chin engages the open space within the ring without great pressure, which prevents the violin from sliding off the shoulder when it is held in a downwardly inclined position whilst providing increased mobility of the instrument.
