The accessory is intended for improving car wheel (1) adhesion on an ice- or snow-covered road. It comprises a number of spring steel wire brackets (2) each bent to form a U-channel (3,4), as seen in side elevation, having two portions (3) extending towards the wheel centre on the outer face of the wheel when the bracket is fitted around the tyre. The inward ends of the bracket parts are connected by a coupling assembly (6-15), comprising a coupling plate (6,7) for each bracket, having bushes (9,10) engaged by the bracket parts and one bush (8) to receive one arm (15) of a coupling spider (14). The plate bears on bent ends of the bracket parts and is tensioned radially inward by U-clips (11) engaging bores (12) in the plate and a notch (13) in a spider arm.
