Novel urea derivatives are provided which are of the formula

wherein R<1> is alkenyl or alkynyl; R<2> is alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl(C1-C8)alkyl; R<3> is hydrogen; R<4> is alkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl or cycloalkyl; or R<2> and R<3> are joined to form a dimethyleneoxy group; or R<3> and R<4> are joined and form, together with the attached nitrogen atom, a 5- to 7-membered heterocyclic ring.
The novel urea derivatives find use as arthropod repellents either when used alone or in conjunction with an inert carrier.
