A method for the construction of a forme inking roller in the form of a screen roller for an offset inking unit or similar print transfer device is described, in which a doctor blade slides over the surface of the webs forming the screen during the scraping operation. Mounted on the roller cylinder is a metallic and/or hard ceramic layer, in the abrasion-proof, hydrophilic surface of which the said webs are engraved between open indentations by means of a laser beam. Hydrophobic lining material covers the walls of the indentations at least partially, for which purpose the indentations are firstly almost completely filled with hydrophobic lining material, then this material is removed until the webs are exposed and subsequently a further multiplicity of cells, which are independent of the indentations in their arrangement and structure and receive the transfer liquid for the printing operation, is worked into the lining material of the filled indentations. ……
