PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-visibility twisted nematic liquid crystal display with an improved dependency on the viewing angle. SOLUTION: In a twisted nematic liquid crystal display with which an orienting axis 3 on the incident side of light and an orienting axis 4 on the transmission side are almost orthogonal, the direction of twisting a liquid crystal from the incident side to the transmission side is defined as a (+) direction. A polarizing axis 5 of an incident side polarizing plate is set at a position deviated from 0 deg. to 7 deg. in the (+) direction in respect to the incident side orienting axis 3, or a polarizing axis 6 of a transmission side polarizing plate is set at a position deviated from 0 deg. to 7 deg. in a (-) direction in respect to the transmission side orienting axis 4. Or, the polarizing axis 5 of the incident side polarizing plate is set at a position deviated in the (+) direction in respect to the incident side orienting axis 3 and the polarizing axis 6 of the transmission side polarizing plate is set at a position deviated in the (-) direction in respect to the transmission side orienting axis 4 so that the sum of respective deviating amounts can be settled within the range of from 0 deg. to 7 deg.. |
