The combined tensioner and anchorage may be used on chains lashing goods during transit, inc. a lockable pincer type fastener which engages the terminal chain link. The tensioning mechanism may comprise a screw jack with two co-axial threaded spindles (13) engaging an auto-locking nut (6) and counter nut. The ends of the two part casing may be forked (3) to accommodate demountable fasteners. Two curved arms (2) cantilever from each for leg, their free ends staddling the tip of the hook when it is closed. The point of chain contact may be offset (x) from the hook fulcrum (4) and the hook may be retained at closure by a recoil sprung (9) sliding sleeve (7) engaging its tail (15).
