<p>PURPOSE:To recover cobalt from a reaction mixture obtained by hydroesterification reaction using a cobalt carbonyl complex catalyst, economically, by adding a 6-20C paraffin and methanol to the mixture, thereby separating the fatty acid esters from fatty acid cobalt salts. CONSTITUTION:In the preparation of fatty acid esters of polyhydric alcohols by the hydroesterification using a cobalt carbonyl complex, a mixture of cobalt salts of fatty acids and fatty acid esters of polyhydric alcohols obtained after distillation of the resulting reaction solution is mixed with a 6-20C paraffin (e.g. n-dodecane, etc.; 1-5 times the weight of esters in the mixed solution) and methanol (0.5-3 times the weight of paraffins) and, in some cases, water (0.05-1 times the weight of methanol). The mixture is separated into two layers, and the cobalt salts of fatty acids are recovered from one of the layers.</p> |
