A planimeter has orthogonal or polar setting elements and associated measurement value electronic evaluation elements using optical detection of marked points. It is a rapid operation simple device working equally well for large and small surfaces enabling automatic electrooptical small distance measurement. The planimeter contains one or more photocell receivers or light sources (11) each positionally adjustable about a fixed axis (g1) by an electric motor. A light source (d) is mounted on a slider (b) moved along a guide rail (a) constituting the coordinate system abscissa by an electric motor. The electric motor (e) rotating the first source (a) is mounted on the end of the guide rail. The elastic motor drive current circuits are controlled by light detector system relays.
