Double quilt stitch sewing machine has a device which permits of replenishing the thread lap on the grippers. Device has a setting mechanism which pivots the gripers about a horizontal shaft to displace the grippers from their operative positions into their lap windling positions. Lap on grippers can be replenished without removing or displacing the workpiece(s).
