In a process form the production of a wire by the sequential steps of continuously casting and rolling a bar of an Al-Si alloy consisting of 0.3-0.8% Mg, 0.3-0.7% Si, 0.15-0.35% Fe, less than 0.2% Cu by weight and the remainder of Al and impurities, the rolling carried out at a temp. of 400-500≦̸C and the drawing of the rolled bar into wire, the folled bar at a temp. below 150≦̸C is rapidly cooled after drawing, and then tepid drawing at a temp. 110-180≦̸C with an elongation of at least 350% is made and finally the ultimate tensile strength of the wire is about 37-41 kg/mm2
