Piston ring for IC engine - has wear-resistant deposit in chamber friction surface and partially in grooves of chamber bottom

The arrangement is intended for a frictional component, esp. a piston ring (1) or a sealing strip in a combustion engine. A wear-resistant layer (8) is applied to the contact surface pref. by a thermal spray process. This layer is deposited in a recess (2) with end walls (3, 4) on both sides or on one side only. The base (5) of the chamber is provided with circumferentially extending grooves (6, 7). The grooves may be partially free from the wear-resistant material (8). In the region above the grooves, the material may be porous.
