NEW MATERIAL:A novel substance K26-2a and its nontoxic acid adducts. USE:Antibacterial and antiseptic. They are effective on gram-positive and -negative bacteria, especially on Bacillus colitis, Serratia marcescens, and Staphylococcus aureus having resistance to known antibiotics. PREPARATION:A bacterium that belongs to Micromonospora and produces K26- 2a, e.g., Micromonospora sagamiensis KG-52, is cultured to form the objective substance in the medium or an antibiotic JI-20B or G-418 or verdamicin is converted into K26-2a in the presence of a microorganism that belongs to Micromonospora and is capable of converting them into K26-2a. The culture is preferably made by the submerged stirring culture method, the temperature is 25-40 deg.C, pH is neutral and the period is 1-12 days. |
