Vat or sulfur dyes, comprised on the cotton or regenerated cellulose as reduced type, was oxidized by contacting with oxidizing composition. The oxidizing composition was composed of 0.01-10 wt. % of oxidizer which was selected from aq. iodate and aq. bromate, 0.005-5 wt. % of aq. vanadate and 0.05-10 wt % of aq. nitrate.
