Cracking of hydrocarbon feeds (esp. gas oils) contg. aromatic and non-aromatic components is carried out at 900-1200 degrees F, a pressure of 0-100 psig, a contact time of 0.5-900 sec and a catalyst/oil ratio of 1-20, using a catalyst comprising a mixt. of faujasite and mordenite contg. 1.5 (pref. 0.5) wt.% alkali metal, with a faujasite: mordenite wt. ratio between 30:1 and 1:5. The catalyst activity and cracking conditions are controlled so that the degree of conversion exceeds that attributable to conversion of non-aromatics alone. The catalyst gives a lower coke yield than similar mordenite-free catalysts at high conversions, when cracking of aromatics would be expected to form large amts. of coke.
|
