FUNCTIONAL OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To make possible wavelength selction of propagated light with time by forming the core part by the material having a difference in the spectral spectrum between the exitation state and relaxation state by relaxation occurrence to exitation and ground state in correspondence to the change of excitation light with time. CONSTITUTION:A liquid-core optical fiber 1 is wound around a flash lamp 3 and a prism 5 and optical lens 4 are provided to the input side of the fiber 1. The output side is connected via optical fiber connector 6 to an optical fiber 2 for transmission, the output whereof is applied via photoelectric multiplier 7 to an oscilloscope 9. The output of a timing pulse generator 10 is applied to the oscilloscope 9 and delay circuit 11 and the output of the circuit 11 is applied via high voltage signal generator 12 to the lamp 3. The toluene solution dissolved with dyes in injected into the core part of the fiber 1 and the excitation and relaxation of the dyes in the core are repeated through flickering of the lamp 3.
