The overhead travelling crane is mounted on a carriage travelling along a track supported at its ends on circular rails. These rails may be mounted on a ridge projecting inside a shaft, and the ends of the beams forming the track carry rollers which travel on the rails. There are arms projecting radially from the ends of the beams, and sloping outwards. They have heads incorporating rollers which travel on further rails projecting at right angles to the other rails, giving side thrust. The angle between these arms and the beams can be varied to suit the applied loading. These arms can be leaf springs.
