Electrode holder for spark erosion machine tool - gives automatic release of electrode for replacement by pulling baseplate against pins to disengage springs

The electrode unit (7, 8) is held against a base plate (5) by clamps (9, 10) which act in conjunction with springs and dowel pins. The base plate is coupled to a motor drive (2) for positioning the electrode relative the workpiece. On the plate (1) carrying the electrode and drive assembly are two pins (14, 15). These coincide with the spring spindles for the clamps (9, 10). When the drive (2) pulls the baseplate against the pins the springs are released and the electrode is freed for removal. The removal process can be automated. To a programme the electrode is brought to the release position, is automatically exchanged by a manipulator, and then set back to work.
