PURPOSE:To extend low fuel consumption range of engine and to thereby enable to operate the engine with a low fuel consumption over a wide operational range of the same, by additionally providing a second intake passage by-passing compressor and a second exhaust passage by-passing turbine. CONSTITUTION:Compressor 2 is provided in a first intake passage 1 and turbine 4 is provided in a first exhaust passage 3. Further, a second intake passage 5 is provided to by-pass compressor 2 and similarly a second exhaust passage 6 is provided to by-pass turbine 4. The above intake and exhaust passages are provided respectively with valves 7-10 which are opened and closed by a switching means 11. This switching means 11 is operated to close valves 9, 10 when valves 7, 8 are opened and to open valves 9, 10 when valves 7, 8 are closed. Here, signal from load detecting means 12 is afforded to the switching means 11. With such an arrangement, it is enabled to operate the engine as turbo-supercharged engine and also as non-supercharged engine, so that low fuel consumption range of engine can be extended. |
