Continuous oil slick pollution detection device - uses reflected light and has two light sources one in line with detector for reflected light

The device for detecting oil slicks etc. on the surface of water, has two fixed light sources (1, 10) which direct light onto the water surface, so that the light rays strike the latter at a given angle. The reflected light rays are received by a detector (4), positioned directly in line with one of the light sources (10). Pref. both light sources (1, 10) comprise IR LED's which have different transmission characteristics, so that the light rays impinging directly on the detector (4) and after reflection by the water surface are optically spaced. The light source (1) no in line with the detector (4) may be pulsed, while the light source (10) in line with the detector (4) emits light continuously.
