Manually tufting carpets - by tying tufts singly to adjacent warp or weft yarns of backing whose warp or weft yarns are tensioned

Tufted carpets are produced by hand by tensioning the backing canvas either in the weft or warp direction and tying in the individual tufts in the space between the weft and warp yarns to either the weft or warp yarns. On completion of a row a weft or a warp yarn is placed against the row in a direction opposite to the working direction, and attached to one of the preceding rows. Tying of tufts is simplified in that orthogonal cordinate order can be disregarded.
