Substd. perhydronaphthofurans of formula (I) are new (where R1 and R2 are H or 1-3C alkyl; and Ro s 1-3C alkyl). (I) are stable amber-type perfumes. (I) can be prepd. by cyclisation of cyclohexanol derivs. of formula (II) in the presence of acids to give the decahydronephthofurans of formula (III) which is then hydrogenated to (I). R4 is H or an alcohol protecting gp. pref. alhoxymethyl with 1-6C in alkoxy gp. tetrahy-dropyranyl, tert. butyl, allyl or benyl.
