NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic substance SF-2059. Appearance: light yellow power; melting point, 85- 87 deg.C; elemental analysis (wt%), C 58.25, H 7.08, H 8,56, O 26.11 (difference); solubility, soluble in methanol, ethanol, etc., moderately soluble in chloroform, ethyl acetate, water, etc., slightly soluble in hexane and ether; color reactions, positive to KMnO4, 10% sulfuric acid, I2; stability, extremely unstable to alkali and light. USE:Antibacterial agent, especially effective to gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasma. PROCESS:For example, bacteria belonging to Streptomyces SF-2059 (FERM-P No. 4661) are cultured aerobically in a liquid medium, and the filtrate is adsorbed with a synthetic adsorbent. The adsorbed component is eluted with an acidic acetone/ water mixture, and purified to obtain the SF-2059 substance. The above processes are pref. carried out in dark. |
