The accessory for lighting a charcoal grill includes a socket which is screwed onto a butane or propane gas cartridge, with a valve which discharges the gas through an orifice into an igniter tube. After lighting the gas at the end of the tube, the charcoal is heated until it begins to glow. In order to supply extra air to assist combustion, an extension tube containing a turbine wheel, and mounted on an arm at one side, is swung over the mouth of the igniter tube. The hot gases are diverted sideways, driving the turbine wheel, which draws in air from the other side and blows it onto the charcoal.
