A sliding member, particularly adapted for use in an internal combustion engine, having a sprayed-on sliding surface consisting of 95.5 to 99.5% metal carbide such as chromium carbide and the remainder molybdenum. The hardness of the metal carbide is in a range of Hv 750 to Hv 2,000, the porosity of the layer is 30% or less and the thickness of the layer is 2.5 mm or less. |
