Specified aldehyde feeds are acrolein and methacrolein (the latter suitably having been obtained by catalytic oxidation of isobutylene or tertbutanol). Suitably, the reaction mixture contains 1 to 20% vol. of aldehyde and a mole ratio of oxygen to aldehyde of 0.3 to 4 and is fed at a space velocity of 300-10,000 hr.<SP>-1</SP> under a pressure of atmospheric or above. |
