The lock with internal cylinder and a number of tumbler rows has axial and combined axial and radial operating means. It has a protection cover for the cylindrical inner part against pushing out of forcible operation. This lock can be used for motor vehicle steering columns. The cylindrical piston (10) has grooves for combined axial and radial actuation in the outside surface. The piston may be compact or it can be taken apart. It has a hollow cone (24) at the centre of the piston used as the actuation stop for the key tip for the locking tumbles combination. Each conical profile of the key tip has a cavity so that on withdrawing the key the motor vehicle steering wheel lock is actuated by a built in spring.
