An electrical actuator drive for a control rod in a nuclear reactor comprises an electric motor, in which the rotor is composed of two parts, as follows; an upper part, consisting of a rigid cylindrical element to act as the starter section, and a lower part in which the threaded spindle for raising and lowering the control rod is surrounded by a sleeve on which there are mounted a minimum of three rockers arms, each having its rocking axis parallel to the threaded spindle. Each rocker arm has two opposed arms, the one arm acting as a pole of the rotor, while the other arm carries roller which can engage into and disengage from the thread of the spindle. By dividing the rotor along its length, its diameter can be kept small and the overall weight of the mechanism is reduced. A stable torque of the electric motor is obtained in all operating conditions of the drive.
|
