An elongate lying board (23) provided with a foot holder (27) and a lying surface (24) can be pivoted about a horizontal pivot axis (19) extending transversely to the lying board (23) from an upright climbing-in position, in which the foot holder (27) is located at the bottom, into a top position in which the foot holder (27) is located at the top. The pivot axis (19) is arranged offset at a distance from the lying board (23) in the direction of the lying surface (24). In order to keep the overall centre of gravity of the lying board (23)/user system constantly below the pivot axis (19), both in the climbing-in position and in the top position, either the foot holder (27) is designed in such a way that a limited lengthwise displacement of the user's body on the lying board is possible, or else the lying board (23) is suspended on the pivot axis (19) via steering means (21), which are hinged to the board so as to be pivotable to a limited extent. In this way, there is provided a final position, which is stable under the influence of gravity, both in the climbing-in position and in the top position, from which final position the user can bring himself into the other final position by his own muscle force. <IMAGE>
