The travelling machine is for applying or removing, and/or tightening, detachable fixtures in railway track superstructure. A series of standard screwing appliances (2) are arranged in pairs in a group for each rail, above a chassis frame, permitting work on several sleepers simultaneously. The screwing appliance adjacent the centre ones of both sides are interconnected, with lengthways movement permitted, via piston-and-cylinder units (15, 16) of different diameters. These are released by stops and activated so that successive centering takes place under the same pressure. A tool attached to the screwing appliances for transfer of powerful rotational movement, can move at an angle for precise centering on every side.
