PURPOSE:To make possible prior detection of ink drop flying directions by disposing a slit plate and a detector in series to an ink jet head. CONSTITUTION:A slit plate 11 which has the opening 12 of the diameter CD determined by the permissible ranges A thru B and distance L of dot positions on a recording paper and a detector 13 which detects ink drops from the pressure change owing to collision of ink drops, the resistance change between electrodes owing to ink or optical change are disposed in series in front of an ink jet head 1 to constitute an ink drop flying direction detector 10. Then, if the collision of any ink drop is sensed in the detector 13, it is judged that the ink drop flying direction of the ink jet head 1 is within the permissible range theta. When a disturbance occurs in the ink drop flying direction and the ink drops exceed the permissible range theta, the ink drops no longer pass through the opening 12 of the slit plate 11 and no longer collide against the detector 13. |
