Stereo sound transmission system for twin-carrier TV signals - distributes interference equally between both right and left channels using reciprocal coder and decoder

The stereo transmission system is suitable for use with twin carrier TV sound transmissions. Its purpose is to distribute correlated interference equally between both transmission channels. In the transmitter (10) a sum signal of the left and right channel signals is transmitted over one path (30). The right-hand signal is doubled and transmitted as such on the other channel (40). In the audio stage of the TV receiver a decoder (20) operates in the reciprocal sense to the coder in the transmitter. This is, the incoming right channel signal is divided by 2 and subtracted (23) from the incoming sum signal. The original left and right channel signals appear at the decoder outputs, but in this case the interference appears at half its value in both channels.
