The feed device comprises delivery means for a sliver, and a drafting cylinder working with an elastomer clothed cylinder so as to separate the fibres in the sliver from each other. After treatment, the fibres are caught up in an air current and transported to the spinning unit. The addn. concerns the ridge elements on the drafting cylinder which are intended to separate the fibres. The ridges comprise the upper surface of a laid-in flat metallic strip, with one side saw-toothed. The strip is wound sideways on in a spiral, with its plain side laid on to the drum of the drafting cylinder. A very efficient method of fibre sepn. is achieved, without deteriment to the quality of the opened fibres.
