<p>New prod. for use as an animal feed additive contains live bacteria which favourably influence the microflora of the intestinal tract of animals. The bacteria are encapsulated in a material which has a low water content in equilibrium with air of high relative humidity, the material being suitable for releasing the bacteria in the digestive tract of the animal. Pref. bacteria are Streptococcus faecium, Streptococcus faecalis and Lactobacillus acidophilus. The capsule material is pref. polyethylene glycol, solid fat (including fatty acid monoglyceride), free fatty acid, fatty alcohol (including ethoxylated fatty alcohol) or sugar. Used as curative or prophylactic treatment of animals by combatting pathogenic intestinal bacteria or maintaining the normal intestinal microflora. Encapsulation of the bacteria affords protection against the conditions prevailing during pelleting, etc. of animal feed.</p> |
